Investiture Ceremony

On December 16th, we had our Investiture Ceremony for Girl Scouts. This was when we all offically became a Daisy Scout and a "sister" to the millions of Girl Scouts around the world. We all had to say the Girl Scout Promise and then we each had part of the Law to read out loud. There were a lot of parents there and even a few siblings and grandparents. Mommy gave each of us our new Daisy pin and two certificates. One was for Investiture and the other was the Welcome to Daisy Scouts. After the ceremony we had 3 different stations Mommy set up for us to play at. One was coloring, one was jewelry making and the other was was putting a giant cookie puzzle together. We had a great time running around playing, eating cookies and having juice boxes. After I got home, I did three good deeds so that my Daisy pin could be turned from upside down to right side up. It's some weird Girl Scout tradition.
Anyway - here are some pictures of the big event! Up next... COOKIE SALE! Starting January 10th we get to start selling cookies!!!!!!! That is sooooo awesome and I'm so excited about it.

Going to the zoo

When I was at the zoo Wednesday, I saw a white peacock. It jumped off the fence and it wanted to eat my Cheetos. MomMom & I just stood there waiting for it to move, but it followed us around for a few minutes. We also saw the elephant painting a picture - that was really cool!

The other animals I saw: giraffe, duck, lion, jaguar, ostrich, tiger, llama, ant eater, parrots, rhino, zebra, elephant, monkey, flamingo, otter, polar bear, turtle, deer, lizard & squirrel.

I had a great time with Granny, MomMom, Ryan and Mommy. Can't wait to go back again.

My First Girl Scout Event

We had our first troop activity tonight. We sang two songs for the 'Tis the Season celebration. The Vail Preservation Society had a tree lighting ceremony and stuff between the tracks tonight. It was cold, but I still had lots of fun with my friends. We were the opening act - sang "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" with another Daisy Troop. They all had really awesome patches all over their tunics. I can't wait until we start getting ours. Back to the singing... Can I tell you how embarrassing that was? Man, there was like a million people watching us. Crazy. We also go to pull the switch that made the lights on the Christmas tree come on. That was really cool.

Here's some pictures!

This is Katlyn. She's in my class at school. Here we are singing with the other troop.

This is my other friend from school, Sage. She's a Daisy too, but not in my troop.

Here we are... Madi, Meena, Caeley, me & Katlyn

Stuff

I got my progress report from school today - "Exceeds the Standard" in every single area! Daddy & Mommy said they are very proud of me and that I should continue to do good.

Me & Justin - we've had a few play-dates after school. He's fun to play with, even though he is a boy.

The First Girl Scout Day

"Today is our first Girl Scout meeting. First of all I want you to know who will be there - me, Mommy, Meena, Madi, Caeley & Lexi. That makes 5 kids. Well, maybe Alexandra will be there too, but we haven't heard from her. Lexi won't be there, I think, because she's sick. We are making paper dolls. Were you a Girl Scout when you were a little kid? Type yes or no."

That's all.

156

My Loot... 156 PIECES of chocolate/sugar yumminess! Daddy took Ryan & me Trick-or-Treating last night. Ryan fells asleep so we brought him back home to mom, so it was just the two of us for the most part. We made two loops around my street - inner/outer side, then made it up to the street above us. My legs hurt really bad when we got home, but it was worth it. I made out like a bandit.

My Lucky Day

Today I got to be on the announcements. When I got to school, Mrs. DeMarco said my name and asked if I wanted to help Mr. Cheesebrough (the principal) with the announcements. Well, of course I said "Yes." So I went through another classroom, through a purple door and then into the office. My part on the announcement was, "Accept more, Receive more, Achieve more! Mountain Lion pride! ROAAAAAAAAAAR!" It was so fun. I was so excited. I walked by myself back to class, where everyone clapped for me. I even got a few high-fives. And my Dad and Mom gave me high fives when I told them. They were so proud.

What I did today in school

Today i got a blue day. Today I got to do a fun center. Jamie, one of my classmates, has been out of school for a few days and today I saw her and it was fun. Today Mrs. DeMarco added the season. We put summer. And today was the 16th of September. I have been in school for 45 days I think.

Ice Cream Social

So Baskin Robbins sponsored an Ice Cream Social tonight with all the sales benefiting my school. I begged and pleaded, behaved as well as I could, and even ate all my dinner in order for Dad to take me. I was so excited because Mrs. DeMarco said she was going to be scooping ice cream for us. So after dinner, despite the rain, Dad drove me there for fun.
During the trip there, I told Dad that Justin was going to be there. He said it was a three hour event, and he didn't know if Justin would be there the same time we were. Well, guess who the first kid we saw was? Yip, just the cutest boy ever!
Dad says my face lit up when I saw him. We talked and ate ice cream together. Dad and Justin's parents also talked, and guess what? Justin lives within walking distance to me. Just one street up. We are going to start playing together sometimes after school. I am so excited! Today was an awesome day.

Do you know what this means?

Expository text

Hmmmmm....
Are you thinking?
Do I have you stumped?
This is a hard one isn't it?
Still don't know, here's a clue - a type of book.
Are you thinking more?
Thinking?
Well...???

It means non-fiction, something that tells a true story. I learned that in school. I love fancy words like this.

Visit with MomMom

This week was a fun week. MomMom came for a visit. She got here on Sunday and left this morning. We went to Good Egg straight from the airport with her. It's my favorite breakfast place in town. I think it's her's too. Then on Monday we went swimming at Karen's house after school.

Tuesday was a quiet day, but Karen came over for dinner! Wednesday I went shopping with MomMom & Daddy. We went to Chik-fil-A for lunch and then to Home Depot, Target & Toys 'R Us. She bought me a new Lite Bright. It's so awesome!
Thursday I stayed home from school - I didn't feel that good, but I went back to school on Friday. That afternoon I went shopping again, but with Mommy this time. Her and MomMom took us to Target, Toys 'R Us and the mall. MomMom got me another Webkinz. It's the pet of the month and I named her Rainbow.

I had a great visit with MomMom this week. I hope she comes back for Ryan's birthday in December.

Justin

As I was getting off the bus Friday, Mommy asked me if I was sitting with my classmate Liam. I told her I was and that I always sit with him. She then asked me if I was holding his hand and I said "No, he was holding MY hand!". I then told her that I thought Justin was "so stinkin' cute that I could just eat him up" - he's my "boyfriend" after all. Mommy and MomMom laughed really hard when I said that. They thought it was funny that I said something like that.

School Update

Today I got on the "green face". I accidentally colored my calendar blue, but Mrs. DeMarco wrote in that I only got the green. I guess I just used to coloring the blue one. We took school pictures on Thursday. I smiled pretty. I also got to do the play-doh, listening, pocket & shape sorting centers this week. We played on the playground this morning. The principal came and visited our class yesterday too.

That's it.

Latest News

Last Friday, I went to my classmate Bianca's birthday party. It was awesome. They had a huge water slide/pool thing in their backyard that we got to play on. It had one really tall slide that went into a small pool, two spray guns that sprayed water all over in the pool, a ladder you could climb up, a passage hole too. It was so cool. I got Bianca a Hannah Montana microphone that works with any radio, kinda like a karaoke machine. I wanted one. My other classmate Sage was there too.

School news:
Today we started using "centers". One table got to do play-doh, one table made a Mouse Pocket (a hand that is glued to a plate to make a pocket that holds all M words), one table got to listen to a story on headphone and we got to play with shapes. I'm getting the blue-sparklie face a lot. I only have two greens since school started. We are working on counting backwards, writing letters with monkey tails (D' Nealian style), doing lots of reading and doing worksheets. Nothing major going on with my friends. Riding the bus is still a lot of fun. I give high-fives to everyone before getting off after school. My friend Vanessa sat by me on the bus on the way to school, but not on the way home. I sat next to Ryan S..School pictures are Thursday!

On a bad note: I started biting my fingernails. YUKE! I think that's why I have a cough and snot nose. I hope I stop soon - it's kinda gross.

Week Two

The week has been good so far. I'm really liking the bus - it's so fun. There is another classmate that rides home with us. His name is Liam. He sits at my table too. I got the blue sparkly face again today. The entire yellow table did - we were all being really good. Prestley and Elyse got on the yellow face (think time for them). I told Justin he was cute today. I think he might be my new boyfriend, but I haven't really decided. I finally remembered Mrs. DeMarco's helper's name - Mrs. Carey. We colored an American Flag today in class and I drew a picture with me and Jaime playing with a ball. It's a great picture. The bus driver almost missed my stop on the way home yesterday. He was driving for Mrs. Sophia and didn't see Mommy sitting on the curb - it was funny! All my friends on the bus laughed. I've been reading every night about 30 minutes before going to sleep. I love to read. We found a cricket in our classroom yesterday. Liam and Prestley walked toward it and it jumped away. I have been making sand castles in the sandbox at school everyday this week. On Monday, I rode a black and red tricycle too. We still do some counting each day.

More to come later!

I LOVE THE BUS!!!!

As you all know, today was my first day riding to school bus. I LOVE IT! It's so much fun. To make it even better... two of my classmates ride the bus too. I was so happy to see Justin & Vanessa this morning. They even ride the bus home with me. My bus driver this morning was nice - she waved at my mom, but my after school driver was really nice. Her name is Mrs. Sophia. I really liked her. The bus has a black floor, white ceiling & great big brown seats that can fit three kids my size.

Today at school we did some counting and writing with dry erase markers that we use socks to wipe off the board with. Another Prestley story... he got moved from our table to his own table. The rest of the yellow table kids got to move our name pins to the BLUE face again!

My First Week of School!!

Last week was my first in Kindergarten. I was so excited to start going to school. I have been waiting for this day for a long time. Monday was the first day. I got to see my teacher, Mrs. DeMarco, and all my new friends again. That made me happy. Mommy, Daddy & Ryan all came with me to school. They brought me to my class so I could put down my backpack then took me to the playground. When they saw that I was having a good time, they told me bye and left. I loved getting to play with all my new friends. Our playground is so awesome! When the bell rang, we lined up and followed our teachers back to class. Come to find out, this is what we do every single day.
Mrs. Demarco is awesome. She is so nice and is always very happy to see us. When we line up outside the class she tells us "good morning" and tells us what we will find on our tables to work on during "bell work". On my first day, she told us the rules of the class, showed us where our cubbies were and pointed out our table assignment. She also told us the rules of the potty. If we are in class and need to go we show Mrs. DeMarco crossed fingers - that's the sign for the bathroom. This way, we don't have to interrupt the class and she still knows I have to go. Since we share with the classroom next door, we have to put the stop sign up when we are in there and the go sign when we leave. I don't get why we have to do that because I lock the door when I'm in there. Teacher also told us about using only two paper towels when we are finished washing our hands. That way we aren't wasting.
I get to sit at the yellow table with Prestley, Liam, Cicilia & Alyse. On Wednesday, Cicilia got swapped out with Sage because Prestley kept talking to her during class and he got in trouble for it.
We got to go to the cafeteria for an assembly with the entire school on Monday. The principal talked to us about all kinds of stuff. He called me up to talk in front of everyone - he asked me my name, what grade I was in and who my teacher was. After I told him all that stuff, he asked me what was the best part about going to Ocotillo Ridge and I said "my teacher & my new friends". My friend Julianna told her mom, Debbie, that I looked to tiny, but very cute standing in front of everyone.
We have a teacher's helper too. I don't know her name, but she is really nice and has blonde hair. She washed the mud off my shoe one day.
I got to move my name pin to the blue-sparkly face on Tuesday. Prestley was talking to me during storytime, so I got up and move. Mrs. DeMarco thought that was good, so she rewarded me. You see, we have four faces that our name pin can be on. We start the day all on the green. If you are super good, you get to go to blue, yellow is not being good, red is really bad! I hope I never get on red.
I get to bring a snack everyday too - that's cool, because I like to eat. It has to be a healthy snack though, so no candy or junk for me.
On Friday I saw a tarantula on the playground near one of the classrooms. Some kid's dad caught it and put it in a jar for us all to see. It was way cool but kinda creepy. We got to be pirates on Friday too. We went around the entire school looking for treasures and gems. I had a lot of fun. We even got to see the principal's office and where the nurse is.
I think my first week was amazing! I love bringing my binder home to show what I've done in class. I love being with all my new friends. I love reading more and more everyday. I love it all!!!
Tomorrow = BUS! I get to ride the bus to and from school now. I've wanted to ride the bus for so long. I am a little nervous about it though, but that's OK. I think I will only be on it for about 10 minutes before getting to school and back home. Mommy will have to get me to the corner by 7:10 to get picked up and I will get dropped back off around 10:50. I'm so excited. If I had to guess, she will be taking lots of pictures, so I'll have her post a few for you to see.

I'll keep you updated on what's going on with me. PLEASE leave me comments... I get soooooo excited to see them and read them.

Thanks! Sydney

Garden Update

My garden is doing so awesome! I now have a dozen armpits (corns), two cucumbers and lots of cantaloupe vines. We had to thin out the cucumber bushes - down to 2 now. We pulled up the four fuzzy flowers that were planted too. My strawberries are still doing good. Tomatoes, not so good. Daddy planted a watermelon seed for me and it's growing fast. Broccoli and lettuce are done, but then again, they never really did all that great.
Here are the latest pictures.

School ROCKS!

I have so much to tell you about, but I will write a really good entry on Friday after the entire week is finished. I will just say this - I LOVE SCHOOL! I love my teacher, I love my classroom, I love the playground, and I love all my new classmates. Thanks Aunt Phoebe for the backpack...
